Relationship/ marriage counseling, also called couples therapy. Marriage counseling helps couples of all types recognize and resolve conflicts to help improve their relationships. Through marriage counseling, you can make thoughtful decisions about rebuilding and strengthening your relationship.

Why it's done

Counseling can help couples in all types of intimate relationships. Some couples seek counseling to strengthen their partnership and gain a better understanding of each other.

 

Relationship counseling can also help couples who plan to get married. Premarital counseling can help couples achieve a deeper understanding of each other and iron out differences before marriage.

In other cases, couples seek counseling to improve a troubled relationship. You can use counseling to help with many specific issues including:

Counseling might also be helpful in cases of domestic abuse. However if violence has escalated to the point that you're afraid, counseling alone isn't adequate. Contact the police, a local shelter or a crisis center for emergency support.

PTSD Counseling

If you have disturbing thoughts and feelings about a traumatic event for more than a month, if they're sever, or if you feel you're having trouble getting your life back under control, getting treatment as possible can help prevent PTSD symptoms from getting worse.

What is it?

Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a mental health condition that's triggered by a terrifying event- either experiencing it or witnessing it. Symptoms may include flashbacks, nightmares and severe anxiety, as well as uncontrollable thoughts about the event.

Most people who go through traumatic events may have temporary dificulty adjusting and coping, but with time and good self care, they usually get better. If the symptoms get worse, last for months or even years, and interfere with your day-to-day functioning, you may have PTSD.

  *A life threatening event. This includes a perceived-to-be life threatening event.

  *Internal reminders of the event. These symptoms typically present as nightmares or flashbacks.

Complications

Post-traumatic stress disorder can disrupt your whole life - your job, your relationships, your health and your enjoyment of everyday activities. Having PTSD may also increase your risk of other mental health problems, such as:

  *Suicidal thoughts and actions

Prevention

After surviving a traumatic event, many people have PTSD-like symptoms at first, such as being unable to stop thinking about what happened. Fear, anxiety, anger, depression, guilt - all are common reactions to trauma. However, the majority of people exposed to trauma do not develop long-term post traumatic stress disorder. Getting timely help and support may prevent normal stress reactions from getting worse and developing into PTSD. This may mean turning to family and friends who will listen and offer comfort. It may mean seeking out a form of course therapy. Support from others may also help prevent you from turning to unhealthy coping methods, such as misuse of alcohol or drugs.

Chakra Balancing

A Chakra Balancing Session is about balancing the energy flow of each of the chakras, after assessing where the energy is blocked or excessive. Amanda Christine is a trained practitioner in the art of reading, touching and healing chakra energy, which can also be referred to as Life Force Energy.

How does it work?

Chackra balancing is a form of energy healing that focuses on channeling energy into the seven chakras. When we talk about treating chakras we are referring to treating your energetic body. The body is not only made up of the physical body, we have an energy that extends beyond our physical wellbeing.​

How to know if your chakras are blocked?

​

  *Feeling stuck in life or feeling sluggish, inflexible.

  *Stress due to over-reliance on external circumstances

  *Feeling you are not good enough the way you are

  *Feeling ungrounded, home life feels chaotic and unsettled

​

The Session

You remain fully clothed during Healing Touch session and typically lie down or sit comfortably in a chair. Healing Touch sessions may last anywhere from 20 min to 60 min for a full body treatment of a specific injury. All Healing Touch sessions follow a general format.

​

  *Intake- At the beginning, the practitioner will ask you about your condition or symptoms and what you hope to gain from the session.

​

  *Centering- The practitioner starts by becoming "centered" in order to become totally focused, present and fully open to the process of engaging with you. The practitioner connects with their internal self, concentrating on a place of silence and inner stability, eliminating all distractions. He or she will also connect with a higher power or universal life energy. 

​

  *Attuning- Setting the intention for you, the patient's highest good.

​

  *Treatment- The practitioner first scans your energy field by passing  hand gently above the surface of your body, noting any sensations or imbalances. The practitioner may experience these imbalances as heat, cold, tingling, pressure, heaviness, lightness, etc. The practitioner then chooses a healing touch technique that is appropriate for your needs. This may include light physical touch or sweeping hand motion above the body. This technique may be used anywhere from 10 to 40 minutes. The practitioner ends the session by assessing your energy field again to evaluate whether or not the sensations and imbalances noted during the pre-treatment assessment have changed.

​

  *Grounding- At the conclusion of the Healing Touch session, the practitioner will "ground" you, which brings you back to an alert stage.

​

  *Evaluation, feedback and treatment plan development- At the end of the session, the practitioner will ask for feedback and descriptions of any sensations or other experiences you had during the session. You will then develop a self-care plan with the practitioner. This plan may include when to come in for another session (if appropriate), as well as self-care techniques and strategies you can use. 

​

What might I feel?

People have many different reactions to Healing Touch therapy. Some patients feel nothing at all. Others describe sensations of moving energy, deep relaxation, feelings of being supported and nurtured, visions of images and colors. Some patients experience an emotional release such as tears, or they may develop insight in specific areas of their life.
